About the project

Envisioned in the spring of 2022 by Dr. Gary Freeze and Aaron Kepley, the Rowan County History Project is an effort to update the written history of Rowan County, North Carolina. This was last done in 1953 and since then, our methods of writing history have changed, who we focus on has changed, and so many moving stories have come out of the historical shadows that demand to be told.
